SERVICE JUNEAU, AK 410 AM ADT WED SEP 1 2004 ...THE
RECORD HIGH SUMMER CONDITIONS CONTINUE FOR THE THE MONTH
OF AUGUST... THIS MONTH OF AUGUST WAS THE ALL TIME
HOTTEST AUGUST RECORDED AT THE JUNEAU INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT. TWICE DURING THE MONTH 84 DEGREES OCCURRED WITH
ALSO ONE REPORT OF 83 DEGREES. 84 DEGREES HAPPENED ON THE
16TH AND THE 10TH. THIS IS THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE EVER
RECORDED FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST. THIS BEATS THE RECORD
OF 83 DEGREES LAST SET IN 1999. THE MONTH OF AUGUST ALSO
BEAT THE RECORD OF FOR THE ALL TIME AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
BY ONE TENTH OF A DEGREE. THAT RECORD WAS 59.3 AND
OCCURRED IN 1994. PRECIPITATION WAS VERY DRY THIS MONTH
WITH ONLY 2.51 INCHES. THIS IS 2.86 INCHES BELOW THE
NORMAL OF 5.37. THAT MAKES THIS AUGUST THE 6TH DRIEST
EVER. THUNDER WAS HEARD AT THE AIRPORT ON THE 10TH AND ON
THE 18TH WHICH IS GENERALLY A RARE EVENT. THIS SUMMER
INCLUDING THE MONTHS OF JUNE...JULY...AND AUGUST...HAS
BEEN THE WARMEST ON RECORD. 38 OF THESE DAYS HAVE REACHED
THE 70S WHICH IS A RECORD. 12 DAYS THIS SUMMER HAVE
REACHED 80 DEGREES...WHICH IS ALSO ANOTHER RECORD. 9 OF
THE 13 HOTTEST DAYS EVER...OCCURRED THIS YEAR. THE THREE
MONTH PERIOD COMBINED HAS THE HIGHEST AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
EVER SEEN FOR A SUMMER SEASON. AS FOR
PRECIPITATION...THIS HAS BEEN THE 3RD DRIEST SUMMER IN
HISTORY. THE MAXIMUM WIND GUST AT THE AIRPORT WAS 30 MPH
ON THE 26TH. THE MAXIMUM WIND GUST RECORDED AT THE JUNEAU
FEDERAL BUILDING WAS 30 MPH ON THE 22ND.
