...An unusually strong storm to affect southern Southeast Alaska
Friday night and Saturday...
Unseasonably wet and windy weather is likely over southern
Southeast Alaska Friday night into Saturday. A storm system
intensifying north of Hawaii on Thursday will move across the
southern Gulf of Alaska...then into southern Panhandle early
Saturday.
Gusts to 40 mph are expected for the coastal waters from Dixon
Entrance to Cape Fairweather Friday night into Saturday. Seas in
the eastern Gulf will build into the 10 to 15 foot range south of
Cape Fairweather. Wind may also reach gale force in several Inner
Channels including southern Chatham Strait... Sumner Strait... and
Clarence Strait. Winds should diminish area wide Saturday night.
A rainy Saturday is in store for much of the Panhandle. The
heaviest rains are likely from Frederick Sound southward where one
to two inches of rainfall is possible by Sunday.
People planning outdoor and marine activities this weekend should
be prepared for windy and rainy conditions and are encouraged to
monitor weather forecasts throughout the weekend.
