I have ever recorded at the West Juneau Weather
Station (and experienced since living here
since February 1970) was on Monday, October
19, 1987, 9:52 p.m. - 9:56 p.m. Alaska Daylight
Time (-8.0 hrs. UTC) when there was a Hailstorm
which piled up a 1/4" - 3/8" (closer
to 3/8") layer of hail and caused localized
flooding. Between 9:01 p.m. and 9:56 p.m.
.52 inches of rain fell as hail, the vast
majority of that in the 4 minute period The
temperature at 9:00 p.m. was 45 degrees F.

temperatures lasting six hours or longer...or temperatures

...Strong gale force winds likely for Gulf of Alaska Thursday night
through Saturday...
A 992 mb low is forecast to develop in the northwest Gulf near
Kodiak Island Thursday night and deepen as the low tracks east. A
strong occluded front extending southeast from this low will move
east across the Gulf of Alaska Friday morning and into the coastal
waters west of the Panhandle by Friday evening. Southeast winds of
35 to 45 kts are expected ahead of this front before shifting
southwest 30 to 40 kts behind the front. During this time seas are
forecast to build up to 25 feet with a southwest swell. Largest
seas are forecast between Cape Edgecumbe and Cape Decision.
Periods of gale force winds...and potentially storm force gusts are
possible over the Inner Channels of Southeast Alaska Friday night
into early Saturday.
Mariners across the eastern Gulf of Alaska and people in
Southeast Alaska should be prepared for the potential for strong
winds and large seas Thursday night through Saturday.
