Juneau and the Mt. Juneau Ridge in the clouds. ------------------------------------------------------------------ NWS Flood Watch / Flood Statement Expires 6:00 AM AKDT on July 01, 2005 Statement as of 8:00 PM GMT on June 30, 2005 ... Flood Watch remains in effect for the Taku River tonight... The annual glacial dam break on the Taku River is now occurring. A Glacial Lake encompassed by the Tulsequah Glacier began releasing earlier this week with noticeable rises in the river stage Monday. The Tulsequah River flows into the Taku River near the Canadian border and is causing a significant rise in the Taku River. Water levels in the Taku River have risen around 3 feet in the past 24 hours and 5 feet in the last 2 days. The river state as of 730 PM Thursday was 42.1 feet. It appears based on the latest data that the river may have crested... however water levels could continue to rise and are expected to peak tonight. Flood stage for the Taku River is 43.0 feet and water levels could come close to this level tonight. A watch means conditions are favorable for the development of flooding in and close to the watch area. Persons living along the Taku River should stay alert and be prepared to take action if a warning or advisory is issued... or flooding is observed. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins to rise. Please stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or your favorite local weather news source for updates on this situation. This statement will be updated by 2 am ADT Fri or sooner if conditions warrant. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1950: Cloudy with the very top of Mt.
