...PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH
TUESDAY...
A weather front in the Gulf of Alaska will move slowly over the
Panhandle tonight through Tuesday afternoon. Rain amounts over the
next two days will range from one half of an inch to one inch on
Sunday night. There will be a lull in the rain amounts Monday

At this time rivers are expected to rise significantly and run
fast but stay within their banks. Ponding of water may occur on
roads and flat areas. Boats should be checked to make sure pumps
are working correctly and that vessels are not collecting water.
This additional rain on already saturated soils raises the
potential for mud slides.

...PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH
TUESDAY...
A weather front with moisture from former Typhoon Banyan will
lift over the northern portions of Southeast Alaska starting Sunday
night. Rain amounts with this system will range from one half of

will affect the area from Monday afternoon through Tuesday

The constant precipitation the past week has saturated the soils
and the forecasted rain amounts will cause streams and creeks to
rise significantly. At this time it is not expected that river
levels will rise above their banks. This is still an
evolving event, look for updates to the forecast on this situation
in the coming days.

- And the greedy CBJ government is all for it... go
ahead CBJ government and hurt even more the
seniors and those that already have a hard
time being able to afford to live in this
town. Local merchants also have to step up
and inform shoppers as to what products they
have and the pricing (like Home Depot online
does for the in-store stock). Otherwise people
have to go on hunting expeditions to multiple
stores which makes it harder for those who
can't get around town easily and/or affordably
which likely accounts for some of the online
shopping.

- NWS Summary of July 2017 Weather in Southeast
Alaska:
...A wet start to July with lack luster summertime temperatures...
The rainy weather at the end of June continued in a very strong
fashion for much of the month. In fact, some southeast locations met
or exceeded their normal July accumulated precipitation before the
middle of the month. Daily accumulations slacked off somewhat
towards the end of the month, but picked up again with record
setting rainfall over the southern Panhandle the last weekend. This
resulted in near normal or slightly below normal monthly totals for
some locations. One notable exception was the Juneau area, which
remained well above normal from the beginning of the month and all
the way through to the end. As has been the case for many, many
months, the Yakutat area fell short of normal monthly accumulated
precipitation. Things there were near normal through the middle of
the month, but relatively dry weather for the second half of the
month left Yakutat with a 50 percent deficit for the month.
The lack of truly warm summer temperatures was hard to ignore and
July of 2017 was in many respects "the summer that wasn't". The
mercury rose to above 70 degrees briefly towards the end of the
first week of the month over the northern panhandle...and that was
about it. The far northern inner channels experienced temps in the
70s twice; at the end of the first week and towards the end of the
second week. A large portion of the central and southern Panhandle
never even got out of the 60s during all of July.
With the cool temperatures, flooding that typically occurs as a
result of high elevation snowmelt did not occur this July and not a
single flood warning was issued. Two glacial dam releases occurred
at Suicide Basin near Juneau. There were also releases on the Taku
River and the Salmon River near Hyder. None of these events resulted
in flooding.
