The mechanical issue with the ship's starboard engine has been resolved and the ferry will depart Ketchikan approximately 48 hours behind schedule. The ferry will sail a revised schedule through July 31 with routing to Bellingham, Wash., north to Skagway, then back to Ketchikan. On July 31, MV Columbia will require an emergency dry docking in Ketchikan to repair an oil leak recently discovered on the port propeller shaft. The ferry will resume its published schedule Wednesday, August 3, departing Ketchikan sailing to Bellingham, Wash. AMHS has added an additional sailing to accommodate Southeast Alaska State Fair traffic to/from Haines; the FVF Fairweather will sail Juneau-Haines-Skagway-Haines-Juneau on Monday, August 1. The average June temperature continues the trend of above average temperatures for Juneau. At around 1.9 degrees above average it was not as warm as previous months but this still makes June the 9th month in a row with above normal temperatures. 6 days with temperatures at or above 70 degrees contributed to the warmth. The warmest period occurred on the 15th and 16th, with the high on the 16th reaching 80 degrees. The coolest weather came during the first six days of the month when temperatures never got above 60 degrees. However the lowest temperature recorded did not occur until the 14th when the mercury dropped to 38 degrees. Rainfall during June was slightly above normal only totaling around 0.24 inches above average. The wettest periods were at the beginning and end of the month. In fact the first 6 days accounted for nearly half of the total rainfall. This period also had the day with the highest daily rainfall with 0.84 inches recorded on the 3rd. The rest of the month only had 5 days with daily rainfall over 0.10 inches. This includes the day with the second highest daily rainfall for the month of 0.66 inches on the last day of June. The driest stretch was mid month with a trace or less of rain observed over 6 days from the 14th through the 19th. A rare thunderstorm also made an appearance on the evening of June 29th with thunder and lightning observed across most of Juneau. Winds for the month averaged around 7.1 kt. The highest winds occurred on June 3rd with a rather strong low that tracked north along the outer coast.
