THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER STARTED ON A DRY NOTE WITH VERY LITTLE RAIN FALLING THROUGH THE FIRST WEEK. SEPTEMBER PRECIPITATION WAS ACTUALLY NEAR OR BELOW NORMAL UNTIL A SIGNIFICANT LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM BROUGHT HEAVY RAIN ON THE 17TH AND 18TH WITH THE GREATEST 24 HOUR TOTAL OF 1.82 INCHES. FROM THE 18TH UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH...A WET PERIOD ENSUED WITH RAIN BEING OBSERVED EVERY DAY. THE END OF THE MONTH WAS MARKED BY ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT RAIN AND WIND MAKER WITH 1.62 INCHES OF RAIN RECORDED ON THE 29TH. BOTH OF THESE MAJOR RAIN EVENTS WERE CONCURRENT WITH SEVERAL RIVERS AND SMALLER STREAMS REACHING OR EXCEEDING FLOOD STAGE WITH THE TAIYA RIVER REACHING MODERATE FLOOD STAGE ON THE 29TH. WITH THE DRIER THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH...LARGER DIURNAL TEMPERATURE SWINGS WERE NOTED WITH LOW TEMPERATURES UNDER CLEARER SKIES DIPPING BELOW NORMAL THROUGH THE 4TH. A COLDER AIRMASS ALSO AFFECTED THE JUNEAU AREA THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 20TH WITH THE TEMPERATURE HITTING THE FREEZING MARK FOR THE FIRST TIME OF THE SEASON ON TUESDAY THE 22ND. THESE COOLER AIRMASSES COMBINED WITH THE ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION CAUSED THE TEMPERATURES IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER TO BE SLIGHTLY BELOW AVERAGE. THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM THAT PRODUCED THE HEAVY RAIN ON THE 29TH ALSO BROUGHT SIGNIFICANT WINDS TO THE JUNEAU AREA. WINDS ON THE EVENING OF THE 29TH GUSTED TO 51 MPH WITH MANY OTHER HIGH GUSTS ALSO REPORTED THROUGHOUT THE CITY. THESE WINDS ALONG WITH THE HEAVY RAINFALL CAUSED A FEW MINOR MUDSLIDES ACROSS THE PANHANDLE. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sat. 10/03/15: Juneau's new Valley Library is having its "soft" opening Monday, Oct. 5th - KINY 2015 ADT: Partly Cloudy with some weak Aurora Borealis. 1950: Mostly Clear. 1850: Mostly Clear/Partly Cloudy with very, very thin to thin clouds. 1830: Mostly Clear with very thin - thin clouds. 1750: Mostly Clear/Partly Cloudy with very, very thin to thin clouds, sun shining on the upper parts of the mainland. 1735: Partly Cloudy/Mostly Clear with very, very thin to thin clouds, sun shining on the upper parts of the mainland. 1650: Partly/Mostly Cloudy, sun shining on the mainland. 1635: Partly/Mostly Cloudy, areas of extremely weak to slightly weakened sunshine on the mainland. 1550: Partly Cloudy with mostly cirrus clouds, variable sunshine. 1530: Mostly/Partly Cloudy, variable sunshine. 1505: Partly Cloudy with very thin to thinnish clouds, variable sunshine. 1450: Clear/Mostly Clear. 1420: Clear with a few thin - very clouds. 1350: Clear. 1250: Clear. 1235: Clear. 1220: Clear with a few very thin clouds very far to the NE. 1150: Clear/Mostly Clear, sun shining. 1135: Mostly Cloudy, variable sunshine in-and-out 1108: Cloudy with broken clouds, weak - weakened sunshine. 1050: Cloudy with very, very slight to tiny breaks, weak bright spot in the clouds where the Sun is, almost extremely weak - extremely weak sunshine. 0950: Cloudy with a thinner area and very, very slight - very slight filtered breaks, fairly bright.. 0935: Cloudy with an area with very, very slight breaks, bright spot where the Sun is, weak - weakened sunshine. 0909: Almost extremely weak - extremely weak sunshine. 0850: Cloudy. 0810: Extremely Weak Sunshine. 0750: Cloudy, a few filtered - heavily filtered breaks and hints of blue, Moon is barely visible. 0735: Cloudy with some filtered - heavily filtered breaks, veiled Moon. 0650: Cloudy with slight- very slight filtered breaks and spots and areas with very, very thin clouds, veiled Moon. 0620 ADT: Very, very thin to thin overcast, veiled Moon.
