NWS Special Statement Statement as of 10:52 PM AKST on November 27, 2015 ...Heavy rainfall expected through Sunday... Storm total rainfall through Sunday afternoon will range from 3 to 6 inches with locally higher amounts possible. A weather front will slow as it approaches the Panhandle tonight and eventually stall through the weekend. The result will be a prolonged rain event...with heavy rain rates at times...through Sunday. Light rain has already begun across the northern and central Inner Channels as well as the eastern Gulf Coast. Rain will become heavier overnight Friday and will persist over most areas through Sunday. In addition...snow levels will rise to over 5000 feet along the coast and into Kupreanof Island with levels rising from 2500 to 3500 feet from Angoon to Juneau to Haines. Streams and rivers...while fairly low at the present time... will rise with the added rainfall and rising snow levels. Currently no flooding is being forecast...but this will be monitored closely over the course of the event and adjustments to the hydrological forecasts will be made as needed. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 2219: High Rain Rate of .20" of Rain per hour. 2020: Cloudy. NWS Special Statement Statement as of 5:49 AM AKST on November 27, 2015 ...Heavy rainfall expected through Sunday... Storm totals rainfall through Sunday afternoon will range from 3 to 6 inches with locally higher amounts possible. A blocking ridge across the Panhandle will slow the eastward progress of a front currently located over the central Gulf. The associated southerly flow pattern will result in high snow levels producing a prolonged heavy rain event. The rain will not start up until Friday afternoon or evening with the heaviest rains expected Fri night into Sunday. Blended total precipitable water satellite imagery is indicating as much as 1.5 inches of precipitable water associated with this front...which is around twice the normal amount for this time of the year. Streams and rivers...while fairly low at the present time...will rise with the heavy rain, currently...no flooding is being forecast...but this will be monitored closely over the course of the event and adjustments to the hydrological forecasts will be made as needed. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Thur. 11/26/15: Thanksgiving Day - Federal, State, and Local Holiday | Have a blessed Thanksgiving everyone | NWS: Heavy Rainfall expected Thursday through Sunday - See 0539 Below | NeedHim.org 2020 AST: Mostly/Partly Cloudy with very, very thin to thin clouds, Moon shining. 1950: Mostly Cloudy with very, very thin to thin clouds, slightly veiled Moon. 1850: Partly Cloudy with very thin to thin clouds. 1847: The Moon is just off and above the far northern end of Gold Ridge on Mt. Special Statement Statement as of 5:39 AM AKST on November 26, 2015 ...Heavy rainfall expected Thursday through Sunday... Storm totals between Thursday morning and Sunday afternoon will range from 4 to 6 inches with up to 10 inches of rain possible. Highest amounts are expected along the northern Gulf Coast west of Cape Fairweather. A blocking ridge across the Panhandle will slow the eastward progress of a front currently located over the central Gulf. The associated southerly flow pattern will result in high snow levels producing a prolonged heavy rain event. Rain has already started in Yakutat. It will become heavier Thursday with the heavier rain continuing into Friday night. Farther east, the rain will not start up until Friday morning with the heaviest rains expected Fri night into Sunday. Blended total precipitable water satellite imagery is indicating as much as 2 inches of precipitable water associated with this front...which is more than twice the normal amount for this time of the year. Streams and rivers...while fairly low at the present time...will rise with the heavy rain, currently...no flooding is being forecast...but this will be monitored closely over the course of the event and adjustments to the hydrological forecasts will be made as needed. NWS Special Statement Statement as of 6:12 PM AKST on November 23, 2015 ...Widespread fog event possible Tuesday through Thanksgiving day... Warm air aloft spreading across a cold moistening surface will aid in the development of fog and low stratus across the central and southern Panhandle from Tuesday through Thanksgiving day. NWS Special Statement Statement as of 12:13 PM AKST on November 23, 2015 ...Widespread fog event possible Tuesday night through Thanksgiving day... The fog will reduce visibilities for drivers...mariners...and pedestrians. The cooler temperatures overnight could allow accumulation of frost on surfaces making them slippery for walking or driving. Areas of black ice are also possible. Caution is advised due to poor visibilities and slick surfaces. Please allow additional time to safely reach destinations. Development of dense fog across the region could affect air travel. This is due to a high pressure ridge building over Southeast Alaska Monday and holding in place through the Thanksgiving day Holiday. The light winds under the ridge with a warm layer aloft will stabilize the lower levels resulting in prime conditions to form fog across Southeast Alaska and maintain its presence. A more active weather pattern is expected to move into Southeast Alaska by the weekend ending the threat of prolonged fog. NWS Special Statement Statement as of 1:34 PM AKST on November 09, 2015 ...Multiple storm systems will impact Southeast Alaska this week... A frontal boundary over the central Gulf Monday is forecast to continue moving slowly to the south through Tuesday afternoon. A very moist airmass with a long southwesterly fetch associated with this front will produce periods of heavy rainfall over the southern half of the Panhandle into Tuesday afternoon. 24 hour forecast totals from Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon range from slightly more than a third of an inch to nearly 3 inches...with higher amounts possible. The heaviest rains and highest totals are expected to be south of Frederick Sound and east of Chatham Strait. Southeast Alaska creeks...streams...and rivers are beginning this rain event at relatively low stage levels but are forecast to rise significantly over the next 24 hours. Smaller systems will be quicker to respond and rise more rapidly than the larger rivers. No flooding is expected at this time. Later this week...a strong low pressure system is forecast to bring more heavy rain to Southeast Alaska. Rainfall totals for this system from Wednesday evening through late Friday night range from 2 to 4 inches with totals more evenly spread across the Panhandle. Area creeks and streams will have recovered somewhat from the first system but will still be elevated above normal by the time heavy rain returns. Additionally...this second system will produce near storm force pre-frontal winds over the northern coastal marine zones and Inner Channels late in the day Wednesday through Wednesday night. Post frontal southwesterly winds will be nearly as strong over a large portion of the eastern Gulf Thursday into Thursday night with seas building to greater than 30 feet. Strong winds and wind gusts for a majority of Southeast Alaska are likely and high wind warnings have not been ruled out as of yet. Finally...heavy snow is possible at higher elevations along the Haines and Klondike highways with the second of these two heavy precipitation event. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1320: Rain after Light - Very Light Rain, Cloudy, top - upper part of Mt.
