- From the article: "More than 152,000 Alaskans
– 68 percent of those voting – voted to define
marriage in our state Constitution as a union
of one man and one woman. Yet on October
12th, one unelected federal judge decided to
impose his own ideology and strike down Alaska’s
marriage amendment. He did so on the
utterly spurious grounds that it violates
the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
A little history refresher: The 14th Amendment became part of the Constitution
in 1868. If you drink the same Kool-Aid
as modern-era activist judges, then somehow
you must conclude that homosexual "marriage"
became a constitutional right a few years
after the American Civil War ended – but
it just took us 146 years to figure that
out. Imagine how many other hidden,
mysterious rights we have in the Constitution
that are just waiting to be “discovered”
by unelected judges who believe that wearing
a black robe entitles them to short-circuit
the democratic process."

- 0557: NWS: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Friday

NWS Special Statement
Statement as of 5:57 AM AKDT on October 10, 2014
...Heavy rain and strong winds Friday through Sunday...
A strong low pressure system has entered the southwestern
Gulf. An associated frontal boundary is advancing eastward over
Southeast Alaska and producing gale force winds over portions of
the eastern Gulf and Inner Channels and gusty conditions over land
areas.
Moderate to heavy rain showers will persist through Sunday...with
rainfall totals likely ranging from 2 to 4 inches for most of the
region...and locally exceeding 5 inches. Warm air in advance of
the front has raised freezing levels to 6000 feet or
higher...resulting in melting snow and runoff over the higher
elevations. The combination of heavy rain and runoff will result
in rising water levels for area creeks...streams...and rivers.
However...no flooding is expected at this time.
Gusty winds and heavy rain will increase the risk for mudslides
and uprooted trees.

NWS Special Statement
Statement as of 5:30 AM AKDT on October 09, 2014
...Heavy rain and strong winds Thursday through Sunday...
A storm force low pressure system is approaching the Gulf of
Alaska from the southwest. The associated frontal boundary will
move east across the Gulf and approach the outer coast later today
causing winds to increase to gale force over the outside
waters as well as Cross Sound...the ocean entrances near Cape
Decision...and Clarence Strait.
Moderate to heavy rain is forecast to develop and persist today through
Sunday. Rainfall totals will likely range from 2 to 4 inches for
most of the region...with values locally exceeding 5 inches. Warm
air will also cause freezing levels to rise to 6000 feet or
higher...resulting in melting snow and runoff over the higher
elevations. The combination of heavy rain and runoff will cause
water levels in area creeks...streams...and rivers to rise.
However...no flooding is expected at this time.
In addition...strong gusty winds are likely for coastal land areas.

NWS Special Statement
Statement as of 5:55 AM AKDT on October 08, 2014
...Heavy rain and strong winds Thursday through Sunday...
A very powerful low will enter the Gulf of Alaska on Thursday and
impact Southeast Alaska beginning late tonight. Moderate to heavy
rain will develop on Thursday over the central outer coast...then spread
north and south as well as inland through Thursday night. Rainfall
totals through Sunday evening of up to 5 inches are possible for
some areas with most locations receiving 2 to 4 inches. Snow
levels will rapidly rise on Thursday to above about 6000
feet...causing runoff. This...in addition to the heavy
rains...will cause water levels for area creeks...streams...and
rivers to rise. At this time no flooding is expected.
In addition...gale force winds are forecast to develop over the
outside waters Thursday and possibly again on Saturday. Gales will
also occur in Cross Sound. Strong gusty winds are likely for

Wind and Heavy Rain through Saturday morning.
NWS Special Statement
Statement as of 10:24 PM AKDT on October 02, 2014
...Strong wind and heavy rain through Saturday morning...
A powerful weather front has moved over Southeast Alaska...producing strong
winds and heavy rain Thursday night. Strong winds and heavy rain
will spread northward Friday through Saturday morning.
Prince of Wales Island experienced high wind gusts around 60 mph
this evening with damage reported. Strong winds have also been reported
in Sitka and Baranof Island as well as through the southern Inner
Channels with gusts around 40 mph. Meanwhile...gale force winds
are still blowing across the outside Gulf waters...Cross
Sound...and Clarence Strait...coming down from storm force
earlier. These winds will subside slowly overnight.
The low will drift into the northern Gulf Friday and the strong
winds will move north through the Inner Channels as a surface
ridge builds over the forecast area. Gale force to small craft
winds will develop over the northern half of the Inner Channels
Friday afternoon into the evening along with land wind gusts
increasing to 45 mph.
Heavy to moderate rain has fallen over southern portions of the
forecast area Thursday evening and will gradually taper off
overnight. There will be a lull in the rain rates Friday
morning...however heavy rain will move back into the northern half
of the forecast area Friday afternoon and continue Friday night.
Rain amounts will range from 2 to 3 inches with locally higher
amounts. Snow at the higher elevations will change to rain by
Friday morning...adding to runoff into rivers and streams through
Friday night.
Rivers and streams across the northern Panhandle will see sharp
rises Friday night as the focus of the heavy rain shifts to the
north Friday.
This statement will be updated by 7 am akdt Friday or sooner if
