...STRONG STORM TO AFFECT THE PANHANDLE MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT...
A LOW IN THE NORTH PACIFIC WILL GATHER STRENGTH AS IT MOVES INTO
THE SOUTHEAST GULF OF ALASKA ON MONDAY AND WILL LIKELY TRACK
THROUGH THE NORTHERN PANHANDLE MONDAY NIGHT. STORM FORCE WINDS OF
50 KT ARE EXPECTED OVER THE SOUTHERN OUTSIDE GULF WATERS WITH SEAS
IN EXCESS OF 20 FT. THIS STORM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BRING
WIDESPREAD STRONG WINDS BOTH OVER THE WATERS AND IN THE
COMMUNITIES OF THE INSIDE CHANNELS AS WELL.
WHILE CONFIDENCE IS RISING IN THE TRACK AND STRENGTH OF THE STORM
CENTER, EVEN MINOR CHANGES TO ITS TRAJECTORY MAY IMPACT WIND
SPEEDS, WIND DIRECTION, AND TIMING.
STRONG GUSTY WINDS OF AROUND 50 MPH AND POTENTIALLY HIGHER FROM
THE SOUTHEAST WILL LIKELY DEVELOP OVER THE SOUTHERN COASTAL
PANHANDLE FIRST ON MONDAY, INCLUDING PRINCE OF WALES ISLAND AND
THE SOUTHERN INNER CHANNELS. MONDAY NIGHT, GENERALLY SOUTH TO
SOUTHEAST WINDS WILL STRENGTHEN OVER BARANOF ISLAND AND
PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN PANHANDLE INCLUDING SITKA,
WRANGELL, AND JUNEAU. WHILE THESE WINDS ARE LESS CERTAIN THE
POTENTIAL FOR WIND GUSTS OF AROUND 50 MPH OR HIGHER IS POSSIBLE.
MEANWHILE, STRONG NORTHERLY WINDS AHEAD OF THE SYSTEM WILL DEVELOP
MONDAY AND PERSIST THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT ALONG LYNN CANAL INCLUDING
EXPOSED AREAS NEAR HAINES. IF THE LIKELIHOOD OF HIGH WINDS OF 60
MPH OR GREATER INCREASES, A HIGH WIND WATCH MAY BE POSTED.
RAIN WILL ALSO SPREAD NORTHWARD WITH THIS SYSTEM AND THE POTENTIAL
FOR MUDSLIDES WILL EXIST WHERE WINDS ARE STRONG AND THE GROUND IS
SATURATED, ESPECIALLY FOR THE SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL PANHANDLE.
ALTHOUGH RAIN MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES, BECAUSE OF THE QUICK MOVEMENT
OF THE SYSTEM, RAINFALL TOTALS WILL BE GENERALLY CONFINED TO
AROUND AN INCH, WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS IN THE SOUTHERN
PANHANDLE.
