NWS Special Statement
Statement as of 5:00 AM AKDT on May 18, 2013
...Unusual late season cold weather...
An unseasonably cold air mass from western Alaska is sweeping
southeast toward the northeast Gulf and the Panhandle Saturday
into Sunday and will likely interrupt the growing season over many
parts of the northern Panhandle early next week.
Colder air aloft may support some sleet mixing in with rain in the
Yakutat area tonight into Sunday morning. While much less
likely...rain showers Sunday into Sunday evening over the northern
Panhandle may have some sleet or ice pellets mix in with heavier
showers.
Once the cold air has settled and skies begin to clear Sunday
night...parts of the northern Panhandle will see frosty mornings
into early next week. Temperatures will lower into the upper 20s
for the Yakutat area with low temperatures reaching into the lower
30s for wind sheltered and low lying areas near Hoonah...
Gustavus...Elfin Cove...Pelican and Juneau.
Residents should prepare to take plants indoors as temperatures
in these areas may drop to around 30 degrees for a few hours
during the early morning on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday morning
temperatures may begin to rebound slightly...but frost and
freezing temperatures are not out of the question.

...The Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory will expire at 500 am

The influx of rain from the showers Tuesday night in the Juneau area
caused a rapid rise on Montana Creek which crested at 16.04 ft at
115 am Wednesday morning. Flood stage for Montana Creek is 15.5 ft.
Water levels on Montana Creek are falling just as rapidly as the
rise and has receded below flood stage around 4 am.

Weather Service office in Juneau from this event at this time.
The Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory is cancelled with Montana
Creek receding. However the drainage basins in the Juneau area remain
saturated and should a collection of heavier showers move back into
the area the streams and creeks will rebound.
This will be the final statement on this event.

Creek and Jordan Creek.
Flood Watch / Flood Statement
Statement as of 5:30 PM AKDT on May 04, 2013
...The small stream Flood Advisory for rain and melting snow has been
cancelled for Montana Creek and Jordan Creek...
The heavier rains have tapered off across the Montana and Jordan
creek basins. Both of the creeks crested shortly after noon
today and have continued to fall through the afternoon. Jordan Creek
while not reaching minor flood stage of 9.7 ft did crest at 9.40 ft
at 1230 PM that resulted in some nuisance flooding of along the
banks and parking lot of Jordan square. The latest reported value on
Jordan Creek was 9.28 ft at 5 PM.
Montana Creek crested at 16.61 ft at 1215 PM and has fallen quickly
through the afternoon. At its peak there should have been water
across the low water crossing on Montana Creek Road but no impacts
have been reported. Flood stage for Montana Creek is 15.5 ft and
latest reported value is 14.41 ft at 5 PM.
More rain is expected Saturday evening in the Juneau area that will
slow the fall of these creeks or even start them rising again.
However do not expect them to crest back above flood stage.
This will be the final statement on this event.
