A developing storm is forecast to move through the Gulf of Alaska Monday night through Tuesday night that will spread strong winds across the Panhandle. Wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph should be expected across the Panhandle with this system. There are 2 areas of strong wind that will affect the Panhandle. The first area of southeast winds is associated with a vigorous front that will move from the eastern Gulf Monday night and cross Southeast Alaska Tuesday. This will produce storm force winds along the coast and gale force winds for the Inner Channels. The second is an area of southwest winds near the low center that is forecast affect coastal areas from Sitka to Icy Cape Tuesday evening. This will produce storm force winds for the northeast Gulf and Cross Sound. Tides will be at a monthly maximum as this storm moves by and are expected 1 to 2 feet higher than predicted levels.
