through next week...
A gradual change to a colder weather pattern is expected across
Southeast Alaska during the upcoming week. The above normal
temperatures that have been over the Panhandle since late January
are expected to give way to near normal conditions this weekend
and fall below normal by the middle of next week.
A series of weather fronts are expected to impact the Panhandle
during this time with the potential for several periods of snow
or mixed rain and snow.
Persons across Southeast Alaska should remain alert for potential
winter weather during the upcoming week. Road crews will
need to consult their local forecast for changing conditions.

ONE DAY DURING THE MONTH WAS BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 36
DEGREES WHICH WAS 7 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 49
DEGREES ON THE 13TH WITH THE LOW TEMPERATURE DIPPING DOWN TO 23 DEGREES ON THE 22ND.
AROUND MID MONTH THE TEMPERATURE TOUCHED A RECORD HIGH...JUNEAU AIRPORT TIED THE RECORD
HIGH TEMPERATURE WHEN IT TOPPED THE MERCURY AT 45 DEGREES.
WHILE THE TEMPERATURES WERE UP...THE PRECIPITATION WAS DOWN. A MERE 1.53 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION FELL DURING THE MONTH...ALMOST 2 AND A HALF INCHES BELOW NORMAL AND
ALMOST ALL OF IT RAIN. ALTHOUGH THE MONTH WAS DRIER THAN NORMAL PRECIPITATION DID FALL
21 OF THE 28 DAYS...THERE WAS A SHORT DRY SPELL THAT RAN FROM THE 18TH THROUGH THE
22ND.
WARM TEMPERATURES...PLUS LOW PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS...EQUALLED VERY LITTLE SNOW. NOT
EVEN A HALF OF AN INCH WAS MEASURED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE MONTH...0.4 INCHES WAS THE
TOTAL. MEASURABLE SNOW FELL ON ONLY TWO DAYS IN FEBRUARY...THE 8TH AND 27TH. THERE WAS
TRACE AMOUNTS THAT FELL ON FIVE OTHER DAYS THROUGH THE MONTH. THIS SPARSE SNOWFALL WAS
17 INCHES BELOW NORMAL AND PLUMMETS OUR SEASONAL SNOWFALL TOTAL TO 31 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL. THE SNOWFALL TOTAL FOR THE SEASON HAS FALLEN JUST SHORT OF 50 INCHES WITH 49.6

Southeast wind 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph in exposed
locations along Gastineau Channel this afternoon.

will occur between 40 and 60 mph.
