Statement as of 5:11 PM AKST on February 04, 2009
...Another powerful storm to impact the SE Panhandle Friday and Saturday...
A strong low pressure system is forecast to move into the
northeastern Gulf of Alaska Friday afternoon. The forecasted
track...strength and abundant moisture available with this storm
will bring the potential for heavy snow for the northern coast and

of snow to fall in these areas before warmer temperatures allow a
transition to a rain snow mix or all rain.
Locations in the central Panhandle will see snow change over to a
rain snow mix Friday night and then change to all rain based on
the current forecast track. The rain could be heavy at times.
Locations in the southern Panhandle will see mostly rain with this
storm based the current forecast track. The rain could be heavy
at times.
In addition to the potential for heavy precipitation this storm
will bring the potential for strong winds in the Gulf and along
the outer coasts. There is the potential for wind gusts up to 60
mph in the Gulf and along the outer coasts.
