The National Weather Service has issued a small stream flood advisory for the central Panhandle through 6 am AST Saturday... A weather front will slowly move across Southeast Alaska through tonight as a warm airmass moves up into the central Panhandle. Heavy rainfall of 2 to 5 inches and a rise in the freezing level to above 5000 feet will result in significant runoff and cause some small streams and drainage ditches to reach or overflow their banks. In the Juneau area... Montana Creek is expected to rise near 16 feet this evening which is 1 foot below flood stage. However at 16 feet the river will be bankfull with water spreading over areas along the river and over the low water crossing on Montana Creek Road. Rain will cause considerable ponding of water in low lying areas, near culverts, and along small creeks and drainages. The next statement on this event is scheduled at 10 PM AST Fri. Additional statements could be issued at any time if conditions change. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 0950: Light Rain after a period of heavier rain, cloudy with the mountaintops in the clouds. 0850: Misting/Light Drizzle, Cloudy with the mountaintops in the clouds, Breezy with a few whitecaps on the Channel (windier over the Channel). 0835: A few whitecaps on Gastineau Channel, Breezy at times. 0750: Misting/Light Drizzle, Cloudy with the mountaintops in the clouds. 0746: Noticed first Steller's Jay of the day. 0650: Rain, Cloudy with the mainland partially obscured. 0620 AST: Rain, Cloudy. 11/17/05: 1327: Apology on the Tide Graphic - See Below New Record Temperatures Set.
