AUGUST STARTED OFF DRY AND WARM BUT THAT WAS VERY SHORT LIVED. THE TOTAL MONTHLY RAINFALL WAS 8.53 INCHES WHICH IS 2.8 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS MADE IT THE 9TH WETTEST AUGUST ON RECORD. THERE WERE TWO DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORDS BROKEN DURING THE MONTH. THE 9TH HAD 0.99 INCHES OF RAIN BEATING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 0.8 INCHES SET IN 1990. THE 10TH BROKE THE 1944 RECORD OF 1.04 INCHES WITH A DRENCHING TOTAL OF 1.53 INCHES. THE TEMPERATURES FOR THE MONTH WERE ONLY SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL WITH NO SIGNIFICANT RECORDS BEING BROKEN.
