NWS Special Weather Statement Statement as of 12:00 PM AKDT on May 28, 2010 ...A transition to cooler weather over the Holiday weekend... Will see high temperatures over the next several days return to more seasonal values as the marine layer moves northward across the Panhandle more each day. Do expect isolated rain showers and thunderstorms...especially across the southern Panhandle Saturday so please plan outdoor events accordingly. Some of the stronger showers could have gusty winds, locally heavy rainfall, and small hail. The best chance of showers on Saturday will be between 1 and 6 PM in the afternoon. Also will see relative humidity values below 30 percent in the afternoon across the northern Panhandle which will continue the dry conditions and so be cautious with any campfires and outdoor activities. An approaching weather front will spread more clouds across the Panhandle Sunday allowing for more seasonal high temperatures from the low 60s down south to near 70 in Haines. Isolated to scattered rain showers will again spread across the Panhandle on Sunday afternoon. Relative humidities will be higher Sunday afternoon than the past three days but still be cautious with any campfires and outdoor activities as more significant rainfall won't spread across the Panhandle until the middle of the week. Winds will be locally breezy Saturday and Sunday afternoon due to the daily sea breeze circulations. These locally breezy conditions will also create choppy seas during the afternoon hours each day as the wind directions flip.
