The Snow of Last Winter

WEST JUNEAU WEEKLY PICTURE

The Snow of Last Winter

As the winter of 2007 – 2008 approaches, I thought during the “blazing heat” of Juneau in the summertime I’d show you how Jackson Road in the Blueberry Hills area of West Juneau looked in early April 2007.

On The Trail Below The Cross on Mt. Roberts.

Looking northeast from the Mt. Roberts Trail, at the top right of the picture is the northern end of Gold Ridge; on the left in the far distance is the Mt. Juneau Ridge, and just to the right of center a portion of Olds Mountain is visible. Last Chance Basin is out of the picture to the left, and out of sight – beyond and below the ridge on the far side of the bowl is Snowslide Gulch.

These Great Blue Herons were at the tip-top of two Mountain Hemlock trees to the east of the house for 10 to 25 minutes on a Sunday evening. There were five of these birds in the two trees at one time before flying to a copse of trees to the southeast.
