Olds Mountain

Olds Mountain from the top of the Mt. Roberts Tramway.

Olds Mountain, 4,453 feet, is 4.5 miles east of downtown Juneau. It is named for John Olds, a Cornishman and pioneer Juneau miner and hotel man. Picture was taken from the top of the Mt. Roberts Tramway.

Looking northeast from the Mt. Roberts Trail, at the top right of the picture is the northern end of Gold Ridge; on the left in the far distance is the Mt. Juneau Ridge, and just to the right of center a portion of Olds Mountain is visible. Last Chance Basin is out of the picture to the left, and out of sight - beyond and below the ridge on the far side of the bowl is Snowslide Gulch.

The peak of Olds Mountain is visible above the part of the Mt. Juneau Ridge which is in the Granite Creek drainage. In the left foreground is a small part of Cape Horn of Mt. Juneau and in the right foreground is the shoulder of Mt. Roberts to the north of Snowslide Gulch.
