Blowing Snow in the Gold Creek Canyon

From foreground to background: The State Office Building in downtown Juneau at the right of center, then Mt. Roberts.. with part of Mt. Maria at the far left, Mt. Juneau on the left further back, shoulder north of Snowslide Gulch on Mt. Roberts on the right, and then the Gold Creek Canyon with the wall of the Mt. Juneau Ridge. Snow was being blown that day as far as Gastineau Channel and Douglas Island from the mainland valleys and mountains. It was a clear to partly cloudy day with a high of 24.7 degrees F. and a low of 6.7 degrees F.

Snow Blowing on Mt. Roberts

Snow is blowing on Mt. Roberts at the top of the Snowslide Creek drainage; a portion of Gold Ridge is on the top left, and the snow is streaming off Gastineau Peak in the center with only a tiny part of the peak being visible. Temperature was 17 degrees Fahrenheit in West Juneau at the time of the picture with totally clear skies.

A Wintry Juneau Morning with Sea Smoke on Gastineau Channel

Snow is blowing on the mountaintops and also visible at the far right of the picture, the snow is being swept down the slopes of Mt. Roberts by the winds. In the foreground is the West Juneau Weather Station’s Rain Collector on the far left, and the Davis Instruments Vantage Pro weather instruments enclosure right of center.
