AEL&P Replacing a Transformer on Nowell Avenue
The transformer is rated at 50 KVA (kilovolt-amps) or 50 kilowatts at 100% power factor (1.0 PF). Top to bottom: 7,200 volt primary (with the orange shields), 240/120 volt secondary lines (three – with the top bare conductor the primary and secondary neutral conductor), cable TV, and at the bottom: two telephone cables on the crossarm. One of the telephone cables services Foster and Pioneer Avenues SE of Fairbanks Street. 240/120 Volt triplex services to houses are also visible as well as the phone and cable TV drops. Houses on the lower side of Foster Avenue and above that, houses on the lower side of Pioneer Avenue are visible at the upper left. In 1995 during the reconstruction of Nowell Avenue, underground power conduits were installed at a cost of $23,000 for the section of Nowell Avenue from Cordova Street to the pole beyond the transformer shown, but because of the additional cost of work needed, they have remained unused ever since.
